Private Utility Locating in Texas
Texas 811 marks utilities owned by participating operators up to the meter or the property boundary. Everything past that point on private commercial, industrial, and campus property is the owner's responsibility. That is what private utility locating covers, before you trench, bore, or break ground.
811 stops at the meter. We start there.
Calling 811 is required before excavation, and it is not a substitute for private utility locating. In most cases, 811 coverage stops at the property boundary or the meter. Private electric, gas, water, irrigation, sewer, telecom, and abandoned utilities on private property are typically not marked by the one-call system.
Commercial sites, campuses, apartment complexes, industrial facilities, and redeveloped properties frequently contain undocumented underground infrastructure. If excavation starts without private utility locating, contractors are often working from incomplete information.
- Private electric service
- Private gas lines
- Private water and irrigation
- Private sanitary and storm sewer
- Private communications and data
- Fuel lines
- Unknown and abandoned utilities
811 covers the utility company's infrastructure. Everything on your side of the meter is on you.

Electromagnetic locating, GPR, and potholing verification
Electromagnetic (EM) locating is our primary method for conductive utilities, including electric, gas, telecom, and tracer-wire systems. Ground penetrating radar is used selectively for non-conductive utilities, unknown infrastructure, and areas where EM locating alone is not enough. See our GPR scanning service for more on that method.
- Electromagnetic (EM) locating for conductive utilities: electric, gas, telecom, tracer-wire
- Ground penetrating radar (GPR) for non-conductive and unknown utilities
- GPS and GIS data collection on every located line
- Potholing and vacuum excavation to verify exact depth and position before critical excavation or boring
- PDF utility maps and KMZ exports delivered after the field work

Built for contractors, engineers, and developers working on private property
Private utility locating pairs with our GPR scanning and concrete scanning services when a site needs non-metallic detection or slab investigation.

Send the Address & Scope
Send us the site address, excavation boundaries, and project scope so we know what ground we are covering before crews mobilize.
Electromagnetic Locating
Field technicians run EM locating first, the primary method for conductive private utilities: electric, gas, telecom, and tracer-wire systems.
GPR Scanning & Potholing Verification
GPR scanning covers non-conductive and unknown lines. Potholing and vacuum excavation confirm exact depth and position before critical excavation or boring.
Marking & Deliverables
Utilities are marked in the field, and PDF utility maps with KMZ exports are delivered for your engineering, permitting, and excavation teams.
